Sigridur Asgeirsdöttir is an Icelandic artist with a BA-honours degree and a post-graduate diploma from Edinburgh College of Art, where she was an Andrew Grant Foundation recipient.
She has been a professional artist working In Iceland since 1984 and has spent various periods abroad studying and working, e.g. in Italy, Wales and in Germany at Hein Derix Glasmalerei in Kevelaer. She has always been inspired by nature and its effect on the human condition and also of natural formations, surface of the land and the uncontrollable forces of nature. Apart from working in glass she has used various other materials in her work, made drawings with sewing pins, worked in water-colours, made book-works and sculptures. Sigridur has held many private exhibitions and executed numerous public commissions as well as for private clients. Her work can be found in public and private collections as far afield as the USA and Japan.
Sigridur is one of the founders of the ‘Women's International Glass Workshop’ and organised their first meeting in Reykjavik in 1989. She curated the group's exhibition "Private Collections" at the University of Iceland during the University's centennial anniversary in 2011.
